Il team inglese di Ineos torna in Inghilterra, ieri gran parte della squadra è rientrata a casa con un volo privato, una vera e propria fuga con la paura della chiusura totale degli aeroporti. Rimangono a Cagliari solo le persone che devono smontare la base e impacchettare la barca. Tutta colpa del coronavirus. Essendo chiuso in casa non potrò documentarlo, ma già da oggi vedremo i capannoni sul molo sabaudo ridursi fino a sparire. In attesa di scoprire come il team di Luna Rossa deciderà di affrontare la crisi, per il momento continua ad uscire in mare, è ufficiale, che il grande evento e le regate delle America's Cup World Series non si svolgeranno. Per Cagliari è la terza grande occasione persa: la prima risale al 2015, sempre legata alle America's Cup World Series, anche allora le date erano già e fissate, dal 4 al 7 Giugno a Cagliari avremo dovuto veder sfrecciare i catamarani volanti ma tutto saltò. Luna Rossa abbandonò alla sfida di Coppa America per le le note beghe regolamentari causate dagli americani del team Oracle. La seconda arriva poco dopo, smaltita la delusione per l'evento di Coppa America, il 19 Dicembre 2015 arriva la grande notizia: Cagliari ospiterà le regate di una probabile ed eventuale Olimpiade di Roma 2024. L'entusiasmo durò qualche mese, il tempo necessario al neo sindaco pentastellato di Roma, Virginia Raggi, di dire no alla candidatura di Roma per i giochi olimpici. Mentre scrivo queste righe nella home page del sito della 36^ America's Cup il countdown per l'atteso evento cagliaritano dice che mancano 40 giorni, 17 ore, 6 minuti e qualche secondo, ormai sembrava fatta, la città era sold out, io avrei dovuto realizzare una grande mostra con 10 anni di vela in Sardegna, 10 anni di eventi e personaggi che hanno animato le acque della nostra isola, acqua e vento che il modo ci invidia e che ancora una volta non vedrà concludersi la promessa di un evento planetario. Non ci rimane che tifare per i ragazzi di Luna Rossa nella speranza che...
